This post is a bit technical, but poisoning children is a sad commentary on Empire's ways with the environment, with regulatory agencies that abuse the concept "safe" levels of numerous toxins -- and the medical-research establishment deflects attention away from pollution by blaming parents via the shibolleth "must be genetic".

Treated wood linked to aquatic damage
02-26-2002
A December 31, 2003, phaseout of wood treated with chromated copper arsenate (CCA) has focused attention on its alternatives, some of which may threaten sensitive aquatic ecosystems. Although alternative wood treatments are much safer than CCA-treated wood for terrestrial uses, they are five times more toxic to aquatic organisms because of their high copper content, say Florida researchers.
