our house in 1989 when we bought it

This is a picture of our house when we first moved in in 1989. It is on a quiet little street across from what was a public school at the time. This was the beginning of what I always refer to as the lost years and my fight to get cca wood banned globally.

This is our home in 2004 before re-stripped and re-did it. It had gotten so bad for several reasons. One we were sick from our cca poisoning and enourmous amounts of money were being spent on health care. Paul of course lost much time from work as well. Secondly, we did not know if our house was safe to sand and paint and could find no one to test it. Finally after finding a scientist who had a hand held computer that could read metals we found out our home was extremely contaminated. Had we have scraped and painted or hired someone to do it there would have been further toxic poisoning. Even with the evidence of our home and bodies being contaminated all levels of government took no action and we were left to absorb the cost of cleanup just as we had to pay our health care costs. Our local Health Unit files however clearly show they were aware our neighborhood was in danger and had been warned by a cca expert from the federal government and two other government agencies as well. The records also state that the government did not want to help us even if we could get a doctors letter asking for testing. May I remind you there originally was a public school across the street which was sold during our time here to the Catholic school board. Deborah

This is our home after it was entirely stripped. The roof, windows, doors and all the siding was removed and replaced. We even replaced eavestrough so that our home is now free from the contamination. Most of the inside of our home has been replaced and the rest will be shortly. It has been a very expensive process but it will be safe and anyone who lives here after us will not have to suffer what we have. There is no price tag you can put on that. Take care everybody and please keep safe. Deborah

Top 5 inches of soil were removed and and patio stones were laid over stone dust . Paul and I love to light the candles and sit there late into the night listening to the water feature and rest from our days work. The fence will be replaced with non-invasive bamboo. Deborah

and the work continues and I will update the pics as we finish our cleanup. Next we will be replacig our decks. While they are BC cedar and not cca wood we know that our house absorbed arsenic so we want to remove the decks as well as they would have absorbed arsenic from the smoke as well. Deborah
