: I just had a deck built of pressure treated wood and latready regret it. It was a matter of money. What I did not realize was the amount of wood dust and shavings that would be left behind. I have a dog and a cat. I am particularly worried about the cat licking off the wood dust and ingesting it and the dog licking her paws and digging. The dog is much larger and I can keep her out most of the time. I am trying to find out what problems the cat would display if he was being affected. I gather that cancer is a concern but where?? and what kind? What about other symptoms. My vet does not seem to know anything and I am surprised because it seems no one else has ever asked her about this. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Christine

Hi Chris,
CCA is a big problem with pets who often lick up the sawdust or chew on the wood. There have been several reported illnesses and deaths and I can imagine how many more have occured without anyone realizing what happened. I have sent you contact for an expert on cca wood and pets. He will be able to help you and your vet determine how to diagnose this problem.
Good luck and hopefully soon this will be something more vets will understand.
Take care and keep safe.
Deborah
