Woody:

While ACQ lumber is far superior to CCA in terms of human and animal health, including you, your workers, and your customers, it does have more copper which makes it more of a problem for the tiny acquatic critters. However, CCA also has copper, chromium and arsenic, which is also harmful, as you can tell from the list of research articles that deborah posted.

However, there is another con that I regret to tell you about with regard to ACQ treated wood, that you may not have heard of. Its ph is such that it corrodes ordinary galvanized nails, screws and bolts. This is something new that has just been noted and is currently being studied by researchers here in Florida.

For your customers (consumers) please be sure that they know that if they are building heavy load bearing structures and if they use large bolts or screws, they need to use stainless steel screws, bolts, and nuts.

Still, they won't get poisoned from it in the way that they can with CCA, so it is a worthwhile tradeoff, as I am sure you would agree.

Best regards,
