: Problem: How do you inform a local community who recently raised $A250,000 to build a Children,s Playground (Large Castle like wooden structure entirely made out of CCA and located on low lying flats adjacent to a river)that this playgroung is a potential health hazard (exposure to arsenic)to their children. All the work was done by a massive number of community volunteers in just a couple of days. And Iam sure non of these workers (during the construction) took any of the prescibed stringent CCA precautions Eg Using Gloves,Mask & googles & sawn CCA wood dust & chippings. I beleive thatthe local goverment environment officer,s did not tell the local community(failure of a duty of care)of the dangers of CCA & Children. The only compensating factor is that in this large CCA playground, all of the structured timbers appeared to be sealed with oil. The dangers of CCA is well known by SA government EPA and yet the silence of governments on informing the public on CCA hazards & children is deafening .The only comment I got from a government EPA official was that "CCA could be the Asbestos of 21st Century".In South Australia CCA is everywhere! Many ---many primary schools have CCA playgrounds and yet no official precautions /action plans have been taken to alert coimmunity of heath hazard of CCA.Community is in the dark! The suppression by governments of the hazards of CCA exposure to children has been aided by a compliant media (Only #1 article anyone suggestions of how to get the Australian communities attention focused on CCA?
: Note On request I can supply info such as photos of this $A250,000 CCA playgound!
: PS Burning CCA :
: Is the toxic gas given off only Arsenate Trioxide(As 03)& or dioxide(As02) & or what other gases? As Iam chasing up a recent fire which occured locally. A TREATED TIMBER (CCA) SCOUT HALL was partially burnt down. Questions:Did firefighters take precautions agaist inhalation?& what was the levels of the toxic gas exposure to the local community neighborhood.Have they been surved for after effectsof fire ?Please advise on gas only .I am aware of toxic ash from a recent Florida paper on CCA.

Hi Warren,
I am pleased that you are concerned about this playstructure, the children and the volunteers who built it.
In the face of the large amount of money and time that has been spent, you are up against a tough fight.
It really should be a simple one. Childrens health or money. Children should win out.
I am willing to work with you and supply you with studies and other data to help you prove the dangers of this wood, drop me an email. I will answer all questions and concerns from anyone interested.
You are right in saying that this should be the job of our government to protect us because they most certainly know all about the dangers as does the industry. But this is a multi billion dollar industry and provides a great deal of tax dollars and jobs.
Truth is they are switching, being forced into it by people finding out the truth like you and I and saying enough is enough.
The phase out is an attempt to quickly remove this wood from the market before the public realises the real dangers and lawsuits mount too high.
I personally feel they have an obligation to the victims and the environment that they have knowingly put in danger.
Sealing the wood with oil can help but will not address splinter concerns which have lead to amputations and very serious infections, it is not a long lasting solution and will not prevent inground contamination or the contamination the sawdust would have left if not cleaned up.
The chemicals to stain are often neurotoxic themselves and rub off on childrens hands. The synergism of these combined chemicals has never been studied.
As far as smoke goes , this is extremely toxic, the arsenic is turned to arsine gas and all of the chromium turns to hexavalent chromium.
Firemen should be in a complete bodysuit with air mask, to work in this smoke. It is deadly. My family was poisoned this way and the results are very disturbing.
I would suggest that you try and get some of the firemen to get hair and nail samples done. Check for arsenic and chromium. The long term damage is very devastating
Arsenic can only found in blood and urine for a few days.
The people who worked on the playstructures can do the same.
Also a trial chelation followed by a urine sample can show contamination.
Check out the Australian Health and Safety data on my information page to better understand how these chemicals work and hide from detection in the body.
I am here to help you in any way that I can and remenber it is you and I and those who will test their bodies and their wooden structures and soil who will bring an end to this dangerous product.
Take care Warren and please keep safe.
